At Milliken Animal Clinic we have a complete in-house laboratory capable of performing many diagnostic tests that can be performed during your pet’s visit. This results in faster diagnoses and treatment for your pet and convenience for you.
- Complete Blood Count (CBC)
A CBC takes a look at the red and white cells in your pet’s body that work hard to fight off infection and function to keep them healthy and alive! This helpful tool can also help determine if your pet is anemic, dehydrated, has a normal clotting ability or is actively fighting off an infection.
- Comprehensive Chemistry (Chem 25)
A Chem 25 is a comprehensive look at your pet’s organ function, electrolyte status, etc. We use this test for a baseline and early disease detection as your pet reaches its senior years. This test is recommended for any pet suffering from vomiting, diarrhea, toxin ingestion, on chronic medication, or any health abnormalities. We recommend this test before any pet goes under anesthesia, to make sure that he/she will be able to properly metabolize the anesthetic medications that we administer.
- Thyroid analysis (T4)
T4 tests for thyroxine levels, a hormone both human and animals have present in their bodies. We can see increased levels in cats, known as hyperthyroidism. Hyperthyroidism will cause weight loss and a ravenous appetite in an affected cat and can be deadly if not treated appropriately. A decreased level of thyroxine in dogs is known as hypothyroidism and can cause inactivity, weight gain, hair loss, sensitivity to cold and other non-specific signs.
- Heartworm test
Heartworm tests are performed yearly to ensure your pet is negative and can continue on their heartworm preventive. Results only take about 10 minutes.
- Other in-depth laboratory tests
In cases that require an outside laboratory, we have relationships with several labs across the country to ensure that the proper diagnostic testing is available. These results are usually received the next business day.
